The Minister of ICT, Judith Nabakooba has warned elected leaders against using social media to promote fake news.
“It is unfortunate to see elected leaders spending time amplifying social media political lies & rumors. (emeeli, emotooka)” She stated.
She spoke all this in a press conference as she addressed how Ugandans are supposed to use social media for the better.
Hon. Judith Nabakoba added on that there is a lot of work to be done by elected leaders and individuals at large. She said some one with a vision and purpose shouldn’t spend time promoting fake news.
“There is a lot of work to be done. For individuals that have a purpose & vision of living a quality life, they cannot be seen spending time promoting fake news.”
It is clear that spreading fake news was the reason why social media was shut down during Uganda’s presidential Elections that took ace on February 14th 2021.
