Court allows Kyagulanyi to withdraw his election petition.

The nine Justices of the Supreme Court have unanimously allowed the withdrawal of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s election petition against incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa who was declared winner of the January 14th polls.

“Considering there is no objection by the respondent, leave is hereby granted as prayed. The petition stands withdrawn.”

The judges also revealed that the issue of costs will be handled in a ruling that will be made on notice.

The Justices thus reserved their ruling on whether they should order Kyagulanyi to pay the cost of withdrawing his petition to the respondent and will issue a detailed ruling at a later date.

In response however, Kyagulanyi’s legal team informed the court that President Museveni had already won and thus there was no need to pay him costs.
