Makerere University has requested the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to help them have their own television and radio station in order to always clear the fake news that affect the university.
While speaking on the opening ceremony of National Conference Communications , Makerere Vice ChancellorProf. Barnabas Nawangwe made the request to UCC.
The ceremony was conducted by Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) in conjunction with UCC today March 4th 2021.
Makerere University that had it’s own radio station some years back was disconnected after failing to pay for it however, Professor Nawangwe said that the university had lost its license fees but is now capable of paying up.
Prof. Nawangwe said that if launched, the Makerere media house would live by the slogan “Amatuufu ddala ddala” (very accurate news) and it will focus on countering fake news that circulate both on social and mainstream media platforms.
The ceremony was graced by ICT Minister Hon Judith Nabakoba who advised Makerere University to table the matter before UCC officially.
