The Acholi Parliamentary Group has declared that the will back Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Jacob Oulanya for Speakership in the 11th Parliament.
This comes after Opposition Chief Whip in the 10th Parliament, Hon Semujju Nganda declared that he will be contesting for the position whe the 11th parliament swears in in May 2021.
The Acholi Parliamentary Group called for a crisis meeting after a section of MPs disowned the declaration of Gulu backing Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanya’s bid for the speakership.
While the group claims the matter was not discussed in the caucus, the Acholi parliamentary group Chairman, Hon. Okin PP Ojara says what is true is that 18 out of the 28 MPs-elect from the region met and backed Oulanya’s bid.
The two, Hon Semujju and Hon Oulanya will battle it out with the current Speaker of Parliament, Hon Rebecca Kadaga for the position of Speaker in the 11th parliament.
