The Ministry of Health in Uganda has revealed that they would need an extra USD 162 million to procure an additional 27 million doses of the COVID vaccine.

This comes just a day after the Ministry launched the COVID-19 vaccination program at the Mulago National Referral Hospital where both the Minister for Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng and Permanent Secretary of the same ministry Dr Diana Atwine received their jabs.
On Friday, March 5th, 2021, Uganda received 864,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility, the vaccines pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, which allocated only 3,552,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Uganda.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng disclosed that the Ministry would need extra funds to cater for procurement of more doses of the vaccine for vaccinating the population.
In the same seating, while speaking to Legislators in the afternoon’s plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, the Minister also dismissed fears that COVID19 vaccinations will only concentrate around Kampala.
The Minister also dismissed a video indicating Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng had missed out during the launch of the COVID19-vaccination exercise at Mulago Hospital.
