A total of 56 candidates of Lubiri Secondary School have been arrested by police over protests today morning.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire the student’s protest was against corporal punishment and poor learning conditions, among other issues.
However, Speaking to the media, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson added on that police officers were able to establish that the alleged cause of the uprising was a teachers insult to one of the learners.
Luke Owoyesigyire said during the protest they destroyed and damaged the school property so they have been arrested on charges of Malicious Damage and destroying school property.
“The 56 Lubiri Secondary School students arrested have been charged with Malicious Damage and Destroying School property” Luke Owoyesigyire said.
