Nation Media to lay off staff

The Nation Media Group has notified its staff across its several media houses that it will be laying off several members of their staff in a bid to ensure reorganization for efficiency and continuity amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic.

In a letter dated March 25th, 2021 to all staff of the NMG in Uganda, the Managing Director of Nation Media Group Uganda, Tony Glencross highlighted that the global pandemic has caused uncertainty and serious challenges which have impacted businesses including media houses.

Glencorss added that several media houses have had to scale down their operations, re-engineer themselves substantially or shut down completely due to the drastic fall in revenues viz a viz the rising expenses; and the NMG has been through the same.

The letter addressed to all staff of Nation media highlights that all media houses under the NMG require reduction of the workforce with effect from MArch 30th, 2021.

The company will however, cater for medical insurance cover for the affected staff until June 30th, 2021 and also offer counselling services to them to help them through the transition period.

Some of the media houses and companies under the Nation Media Group include KFM, Daily Monitor, NTV, Spark TV, The East African News Paper, Nation Courier Services, Ennyanda among others.
