Uganda misses out in the BET Nominations, Diamond Platinumz makes it as the only East African artist nominated

The prestigious BET awards for this year are slated to take place on June 27th 2021 and the organisers went ahead to release the list of nominations.

The awards picked more interest among Ugandans and East Africa at large after Eddy Kenzo scooped the award for best international act in 2014.

The singer made history after he became the first Ugandan and east African to win the much coveted award.

It took 3 years after Kenzo’s award win to see another East African bring the award. This was none other than Wasafi record’s Rayvanny who won the ‘Best Viewers choice Best International Act award.

Since then, the awards have been dominated by Nigerians with Burna Boy winning last year’s award.

In the nominations released for this year, no Ugandan artiste made it to the list while East and Central Africa only have one nomination in Diamond Platinumz.

The Jeje singer is nominated alongside Nigerians Burna Boy and Wizkid, Aya Nakamura (France), Emicida (Brazil), Headie One (UK) Young T, and Bugsey (UK), and Youssoupha (France) in the BET’s Best International Act Award category.

This is the third time the Tanzanian bongo flavor star is being nominated after his 2014 and 2016 nominations. He is yet to win the award and hopefully he can this time round.

However Nigerians Burnaboy and Wizkid are tipped as the favorites to win the award. The two singers’ albums Twice as tall by Burnaboy and Wizkid’s Made in Lagos did quite well upon their release globally.
