Burna Boy beats Wizkid and Diamond Platinumz to BET Award

The 21st annual BET awards took place last night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

This saw a host of winners walk away with different awards.

In the category most popular in Africa where African musicians are nominated, the competition was tough between Nigerians Burna Boy, Wizkid and Tanzanian singer Diamond Platinumz.

However, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu aka Burna Boy walked away as the proud winner of the best international act.

The singer while accepting his award called his mother into the stage.

Burna boy appreciated the support and effort his mother has always put into his music career even when no one believed in him.

Burna Boy called his mother the greatest gift he has ever received.

This was the third time he’s winning this award after clinching it in 2019, 2020 and 2021 which is an African record since no one had ever achieved the awards three consecutive times.

His album Twice As Tall co-produced by American rapper PDiddy catalysed his win.

The album that features a number of international stars such as Stormzy,Sauti Sol, Youssou Ndour, Chris Martin, Naughty by Nature did really well globally.

He has gone on to cement his place on the international scene with a number of hit songs featuring the likes of Justin Bieber, Sia among others.
