Tanzanian Bongo flavor star Diamond Platinumz has come out to appreciate the immense support accorded to him by his country men in the recently concluded BET awards.
The Jeje singer was nominated in the Best International act category that was finally won by Nigerian Afro-pop star Burna Boy.
Platinumz made a fashion statement when he showed up for the ceremony clad in a traditional Masai outfit.
After losing, he took to his Instagram page to show his appreciation.
“Through this award, I have seen how much Tanzanians have unity, love and value our own… I thank each of you for the love you have shown me… it’s a pleasure to see the world mentioning countries with the best musicians Tanzania is mentioned. It’s something to thank God…and I believe we will carry it sometimes …I will be comforted tomorrow and the day after another artist is also in the matter of representing the nation, let us give him strength like you gave me….we are the nation of the Swahili.” He posted.
It should be remembered that his bid had been launched in the national parliament to help him win this award.
The Tanzanian assembly believed that a win for him would help to market their country abroad which would increase tourists.
However, there was a section of Tanzanians who launched a campaign to see him fail because if his affiliation to the late President, John Pombe Magufuli.
East Africa remains with only two BET awards from Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo in 2014 and Tanzania’s Rayvanny in 2017.
This was the Wasafi records CEO third nomination but he’s yet to clinch the award.
Despite the loss, he remains an undoubted music heavyweight in East Africa and Africa at large.
