The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has come out to call upon all musicians in the country to come and update their information with them.
This is in a bid to help them access the COVID 19 relief package of Ugx 100,000 set to be given out by the government.
Government early this week released a list of people it classified as vulnerable that need help in this 42 day lockdown.
Musicians and entertainers were also placed on this list.
Speaking to journalists, singers Big Eye and Renah Nalumansi called upon all musicians both registered and those not with with UMA to come and validate their details.
“All that is needed from these musicians is their NIN number plus their mobile money number. They have to make sure the name on the national ID is the one that their mobile money number displays. We have been asked by the Prime Minister’s office to deliver the details. Even if you have not been registered with us, we can forge a way forward.” Big Eye said.
With different factions coming up recently especially the Uganda Music Federation formed and headed by Chameleon, UMA has decided to take issues of fending for it’s artistes into its own hands.
This is because of any slight mistake, Chameleon’s group will pounce on these vulnerable musicians and recruit then a thing that would undermine UMA’s power.
