Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has over the times hailed Ugandan comedian, MC Mariachi as one of the best in the country.
This was the same when he returned recently over the weekend for Ugandan comedian Patrick Salvado’s Africa Laughs show.
While speaking about Ugandan comedy, Omondi said that Mariachi has huge potentials.
He however has one problem preventing from breaking out of Uganda.
And this is none other than English, if only Mariachi could do a few of his jokes in English.
This would help him to become Continental and then global.
Omondi then equated him to Tanzanian comedians who only enjoy doing jokes in Swahili.
“Mariachi is hugely talented. His only problem however is that he doesn’t do jokes in English. I could have taken him to Kenya but English hakuna. He is like these Tanzanian comedians who enjoy doing comedy in Kiswahili and are comfortable there.”
Omondi also hailed Ugandan comedian Napoleon as being very good.
He also trashed the Ugandan music industry saying that it has no competition outside Uganda.
According to Omondi, he last Uganda’s hit song outside borders was Valu Valu years ago.
“I want to assure you that there there is no competition coming out from Uganda beyond the borders. The competition is only internal. You last had a hit song in Valu Valu many years ago. There are however many number of talented musicians such as Spice Diana, Winnie Nwagi and my friend Eddy Kenzo but no hits outside your borders,” said Omondi
