Controversy: Journalist Die While Covering World Cup in Qatar

Renown United States Journalist Grant Wahl has been pronounced dead while covering the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Wahl collapsed in the press box at the Lusail Stadium on Friday while covering the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands.

He was quickly treated on the spot before he was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead!

Weeks back in Qatar, Wahl had been briefly detained by Authorities in Qatar for wearing a shirt with a rainbow, in support of the LGBTQ community.

Close friends and relatives said that Wahl had complained of chest discomfort and sought help at the medical clinic at the World Cup media center, where he was told that he probably had bronchitis.

But his brother Eric Wahl said that his brother had received death threats and that he believed Wahl was killed.

“It’s with disbelief and immense sadness that I have been made aware of the passing of renowned Sports Journalist Grant Wahl, whilst reporting on a World Cup Quarterfinal match,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino wrote in a statement.

Wahl’s death comes just days after he was recognised by FIFA and AIPS for his contribution to reporting on eight consecutive World Cups, with his first coming in United States 1994.
