Singer and actress Hellen Lukoma has dismissed claims that there is no money in the music industry, insisting that music remains a profitable venture for those who are dedicated and consistent.

Speaking about the state of the industry, Lukoma said that while everyone is entitled to their opinion, she believes quality music will always find its audience regardless of changing trends and generations.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I believe good music will always stand out regardless of the generation,” she said.
Lukoma also challenged the narrative that musicians cannot earn a living from their craft. According to her, the fact that many artists continue to pursue music despite the challenges is proof that there is still money to be made.
“They say there’s no money, but it’s through music that they have constructed houses, paid school fees and so on,” she noted.
The singer went on to reveal that music has played a significant role in her own success. While speaking in a light-hearted manner, she admitted that her Range Rover was acquired through earnings from music, using her experience to encourage aspiring artists not to lose hope.
She urged those passionate about music to join the industry and remain persistent rather than being discouraged by negative opinions.
Lukoma also weighed in on the ongoing debate sparked by Eddy Kenzo’s remarks that modern-day artists have earned more from music than veteran musicians.
According to her, comparing earnings across different generations without considering the value of money at the time can be misleading.
“The value of money has changed. One million shillings now is a lot, but 500 shillings was a lot back then too, which means the Kafeeros also had money and took care of their families,” she explained.
