Mondays have a reputation. For most people, they are the day to survive; back-to-back meetings, overflowing mailboxes, and a quiet wish for the week to move a bit faster. But Mezo Noir, Kololo’s most frequented hangout, has been steadily rewriting that script each Monday.
And on Monday, June 8th, Heroes’ day eve, the Kololo hangout, in partnership with global luxury tequila brand- Don Julio, hosted a special celebration to toast to the first anniversary of the Useless Mondays theme night.
Hosted by DJ Dash- a Don Julio influencer, the night has become popular for its blend of music, nightlife culture and premium experiences. One year on, it has firmly established itself as part of Kampala’s social calendar.
The anniversary celebrations began with a tequila masterclass, led by mixologists from the Advocacy team. Guests were taken through the Don Julio Core range, learning the art of cocktail making through hands-on demonstrations. The result included some margaritas, palomas, and personalised creations, served in both traditional glassware and Don Julio engraved ceramic handleless cups.
The mentorship highlighted Don Julio’s growing presence on Kampala’s premium nightlife scene. And as anticipated, as the evening progressed, bottle service became part of the spectacle.
Processions of waitresses carrying bottles through the packed venue, accompanied by lights, ceremony, and the distinctive gong, characterized the night, signaling the arrival of a Don Julio 1942 bottles.
Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager for Tequila and Rum at UBL East Africa, said the partnership with Useless Mondays was another chance to curate memorable experiences for consumers, this time round- on a Monday!
“Our partnership with Useless Mondays is a natural fit, because it’s hosted by our very own DJ Dash. But through this partnership, we have had another chance to curate another memorable experience at Mezo, and this time on a Monday night. I am confident that everyone here has had such a great time. Seeing people shake off the Monday tension with such energy has given us even more reason to keep delivering nights like these,” she said.
Music remained at the centre of the celebrations. DJs Zonke Africa, Sssese, Edwizzy Selekta, Kash Pro, City Girl, Kwesta 43 and Scarz, delivered a mix of Afro-electronic sounds, Hip Hop, Amapiano, Afrohouse and Dancehall, keeping the dancefloor occupied throughout the night.
DJ Dash, serving as both host and headliner, maintained the momentum from start to finish, while the night’s MC- Vianna Indi, guided guests through the evening’s activities.
A year later, Useless Mondays managed to accomplish something not so many nightlife concepts have been able to achieve- transforming the most dreaded and busiest day of the week into one people anxiously look forward to, to step out and party hard!
