Singer Vinka has revealed that her young daughter is yet to fully understand that her mother is one of the country’s biggest music stars.
Speaking during an interview on Galaxy TV, Vinka explained that while her daughter knows that people recognise her mother as Vinka, she does not understand the extent of her fame or why people constantly see her on television.
According to Vinka, her daughter once told her that her friends know her as Vinka, but she personally knows her as Veronica, her mother’s real name.
“My daughter told me, ‘Mummy, my friends say you are Vinka but for me I know Veronica.’ Her friends see me on TV. She knows it’s me, but she wants me to open up to her. She doesn’t watch my videos; she watches kid stuff,” Vinka said.
The singer explained that her daughter occasionally sees her on television and recognises her, but she has not yet developed an understanding of her mother’s celebrity status.
“She sees me on TV sometimes and says, ‘That’s you, mummy,’ but she doesn’t fully understand,” Vinka added.
Vinka said she intends to explain her career and public profile to her daughter when she is older, allowing her to grow up without being overwhelmed by the attention surrounding her mother.
Away from her career, Vinka also described herself as a disciplinarian mother, saying she believes the strict upbringing she received played an important role in shaping her life.
“I am a disciplinarian mum because that’s how I grew up, and the only thing I might not do to her is take her early for boarding school. But I have an iron hand because it saved me a lot growing up,” she said.
However, Vinka clarified that her approach does not involve physical punishment, describing her parenting style as one based on discipline and what she called “tough love.”
“I don’t cane her, but there’s tough love,” she added.
