National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate for the forth coming general elections has been arrested in Kalangala together with his entire team.
The Kyadondo East legislator was bound to hold his first campaign meeting and rally in the island town of Kalangala but it was not possible.
The Police and military first blocked them from crossing to the Island but were later allowed to access MV Ssese which they used to cross over to the Island under heavy deployment of the police and army
On reaching their, they faced heavy resistance from the military and police which resulted into the arrest of Bobi Wine’s head of security Eddie Mutwe and others with whom he works.
Bobi Wine’s driver and drivers in other vehicles were also pulled out and put into cuffs before they pulled Bobi Wine out of his car and arrested him too.
Journalists were denied access to cover most of the events as they unfolded and those that persisted were also arrested.
The Police and Military used their anti-riot shields to stop the media and other persons from witnessing these arrests although the press managed to capture them.
This is not the first time the presidential candidate has been arrested. The last time he was arrested was in November shortly after his nomination, which arrest led to country wide protests which claimed the lives of over fifty (50) people.
The Masaka Municipality Member of Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga said that the military and police arrested Bobi Wine and his entire team right in the middle of a forest and they have no idea where they took him or what to do about it.
