Court Martial Adjourns Bail Hearing For NUP Supporters

The court Martial was today Tuesday June 8th 2021 supposed to hear a bail application for the remaining regiment of NUP supporters who have been in jail for close to 6 months now.

It should be recalled that 18 members of the arrested NUP campaign team have been languishing in Kitalya prison after their arrest last year.

The group which was over 100 members during their arrest in Kalangala district has been released in different phases and now only 18 remain behind bars.

According to the last court seating, these were to reappear today in court and assess their bail application. The group includes the famed Nubian Li, Dan Magic and Eddie Mutwe who were the most popular faces and closest to NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

However under clear circumstances, court has been suspended which means that these are to spend some more time behind bars.

According to the National Unity Platform Twitter page, court has been adjourned with no official reason. NUP alleged that this is a plot to keep their comrades in prison.

It is not known whether this development is alluded to the presidential directive that suspended public gatherings for 42 days.

An official statement is awaited from the Court Martial on this matter and we shall keep you updated.
