The Uganda Electoral Commission has on December 26th, 2020 suspended all campaign meetings in selected areas that are categorized as having high spread of Covid19.
The move is aimed at cutting down the spread of the novel Corona Virus that has claimed 245 lives in Uganda with 33,563 cases reported since March 2020.
The EC spokesperson, Paul Bukenya said that from Boxing day, December 26, 2020, no campaign meetings will be held in the 11 cities and districts of Mbarara, Kabarole, Luwero, Kasese, Masaka, Wakiso, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo, Kampala and Tororo.
The Electoral commission also noted that most of the candidates that in the race for political positions in the forth coming 2021 general elections have often been adamant with following of the set Standard Operating Procedures which has resulted into the surging number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
The Electoral Commission through their spokesperson has cautioned the candidates not to defy the guidelines again otherwise they risk losing their candidature.
