Renown Television presenter Sheilah Gashumba has dismissed allegations that she is paid by the Uganda Tourism Board or anybody else to market Ugandan tourism.
The allegations arose from a twitter timeline exchange between her and Jeffrey Smith, the Founding Director of Vanguard Africa a body that advocates for pro-democratic leaders in Africa.
Jeffrey Smith has often used his twitter and other platforms to call out on injustices as well as human rights abuses across Africa and has advocated for the freedom of Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine alongside other opposition candidates.
He took to his Twitter to expose the injustices in Uganda during and after the election period among which were the arrest of Kyagulanyi Sentamu. Jeffrey also said that Uganda is not in a position to host the MTV Africa Music Awards when she is torturing her own artists.
He thus discouraged other people (foreigners) and international artists from visiting Uganda claiming it was politically unstable and thus unsafe for anybody.
Sheilah responded to Jeffrey’s clapped back at Jeffrey’s claims pointing out the fact that several countries have hosted the MAMAs despite the instabilitiues and issues they had then.
“Dear @Smith_JeffreyT MTV AWARDs have been hosted in Nigeria (Boko Haram & SARs has been happening) & South Africa ( where the country has Xenophobia attacks for a longtime), did u ever campaign that the awards shouldn’t take place in those countries!!NOO!I think u want to steal 🇺🇬 OIL”Sheilah Gashumba
A number of people that agreed with Jeffrey came at Sheilah insulting her and many claiming that she was paid to promote and market the Ugandan Tourism ins=dustry something that she denied completely.
