Singer Sophie Nantongo has expressed interest in becoming the next president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), a body that brings together all music artists in the country.
In an interview, the former Golden Band member revealed that she is ready to contest for the big office because she is confident that she is the right person to lead the music industry for the coming couple of years.

The previous presidents have been resigning before their terms come to an end and these include Sophie Gombya and more recently Ykee Benda.
Sophie Gombya resigned in July 2020 as she took an active role in elective politics when she contested for Kampala Woman Councilor office, a race she lost.
Ykee Benda, real names Tugume Wycliffe who is the current president of UMA after taking on from Sophie Gombya has recently revealed that he will be stepping down from the position.
According to the UMA constitution, the Vice President takes up the office if and when the President leaves office before their terms expires and those contesting for the office would be required to pay Ug Shs. 500, 000 as application a fee which Sophie says she is ready to pay.
