Singer Victor Kamenyo, real names Derrick Katongole, has set his sights on Parliamentary seat come next elections in 2026.
Kamenyo was contesting for LC 5 seat for which he lost to National Unity Platform’s James Mubiru.
He has cited vote rigging and financial constraints for his failure in his pursuit for LC 5 but he expressed contentment with his achievement.
“Amidst the rigging, amidst the political wave, amidst the financial uncertainties caused by Covid since we artists are not yet open due to covid and amidst the age bracket of my old fellow opponent candidates, I managed to score highly despite the fact that I was an independent candidate to an extent that the first runner was just 27 votes ahead of me,” he stated via Facebook.
“I know this is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, I know how disappointed you feel because I feel it too and do thousands of Ugandans who invested there hopes and dreams in this effort.
“This is so painful but I want you to remember this, Our Campaign was never about one person or even one election, it was about this generation. Today I declare that 2026 am standing as a Member Of Parliament.”
The ‘Sirina Malala’ singer had earlier showed his intentions to stand for Lubaga North MP before withdrawing from the race in the concluded elections to back Abubaker Kawalya.
