The incumbent and National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, President Tibuhaburwa Yoweri Museveni has promised to ask the military prosecution team to pardon former Inspector General of Police, Gen Edward Kale Kayihura.
Mr. Tibuhaburwa made the promise while meeting Kisoro District NRM leaders on his campaign trail in Kisoro District.
The District leaders, led by the LC5 Chairperson, Abel Bizimana, asked him to consider forgiving their son as he has forgiven many others who had wronged him in the past.
“We know you have forgiven many people; we know you are merciful. We beg you to forgive our son Kale through he might have wronged you,”Abel Bizimana, LC5 Chairperson, Kisoro District
With just nine (9) days left until the election day, the Kisoro Leaders made their cry to the president to free their son who they believe served the country deligently and thus worth the pradon.
Kayihura was arrested and detained in Makindry Military Barracks in 2018 on charges of illegal repatriation of Rwandan nationals in Uganda as well as failure to protect war materials.
He was arraigned and charged in the Military court before being released on bail although with strict travel restrictions.
In response to their pleas, the president promised to forgive Kayihura and put in a good word for him in the Military Prosecution Team to have him pardoned.
“Kale Kayihura (former IGP), just like the (Kisoro LC5) chairman said; there are those who committed heavy sins and we forgave them. So then why don’t we forgive him! Because you’ve asked and said he’s our person (NRM) I’ll speak to the military prosecution and tell them your request and also add in my request to have him forgiven,”President Museveni
Kisoro leaders promised Museveni that they are ready to overwhelmingly vote for him in the forthcoming elections owing to the development the area has achieved.
