Ina n attempt to defend the president’s decision to suspend a major donor programme funder in Uganda, Democratic Governance Facility, the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said that these agencies fund “smear campaigns” in the country.

According to Ofwono Opondo, intelligence organizations in Uganda have information that implicates the DGF as a major funder of under-hand smear campaigns against the government of Uganda through various people and organizations.

He added that this is part of the subversive and unscrupulous activities being done using part of the funds provided by the Democratic Governance Facility in Uganda.

Opondo also accused the DGF for funding the activities of the National Unity Platform (NUP) claiming that the intelligence organizations have information of how much and at what intervals the funds were disbursed.

“Ask yourself, a political party that was formed some months ago, where did they get the money for the nomination of all the MPs that they fronted.”

Ofwono Opondo, Government Spokesperson.

In response to the allegations, Joel Senyonyi the spokesperson of the National Unity Platform said that government has no proof that the DGF funded their campaigns but was rather looking for excuses for the closure of a body that was of much use to Uganda.
