Human Rights Lawyer and and founder of the rights organization Chapter Four Uganda stated that the Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) funds both state and non-state actors.
This comes a few days after the President of Uganda, President Museveniordered for the suspension of the facility which is said to be the leading funder of non-government organizations in the country.
The President accused the facility for funding non-state actors as well as individuals or groups that dedicate their time at resources to smear campaigns against the government.
Ofwono Opondo, the government spokesperson also revealed days ago that according to the intelligence organizations, the facility was funding opposition groups and non-developmental programs.
According to Nicholas Opiyo, the suspension of the DGF by the president on grounds that the fund facilitates smear campaigns against it is wrong.
According to the Chapter Four boss, the DGF funds both state and non-state actors and this information is available on the organization’s website.
The lawyer revealed that state actors like the Parliamentary Institute, The National NGO Bureau, The Uganda Human Rights Organization, The Law Council and many other government agencies are recipients of the DGF funding.
The renown human rights lawyer maintains that both state and non-state agencies and organizations will lose out if the Government upholds the suspension of the fund.
