Long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has been unveiled as one of Uganda’s tourism ambassador by the Uganda Tourism Board
The 25year old long distance runner was so excited on being unveiled as one of the tourism ambassador.
“I am grateful and delighted to be here to express solidarity with tourism stakeholders. I am happy for having chosen me for this huge responsibility. I accept it with all humility and honour.” Cheptegei noted.
The 5,000 m and 10,000 m world record holder said the huge responsibility he has been given will give him the courage to continue winning and carrying Uganda’s flag higher while not forgetting to promote tourism.
According to Uganda Tourism Board CEO, Lilly Ajarova the announcement was in line with their goal of restarting tourism in Uganda after being greatly affected by the Coronavirus pandemic that hit the entire world.
“Our annual visitor arrivals had been projected to grow to 1.6 million in 2020 but this was greatly affected by the pandemic,” Ajarova said during the function to unveil the 25-year old long-distance runner held at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
It is on record that the 25 year old long distance runner, broke the long standing 10,000 meter world record in Valencia hence raising Uganda’s flag and making Uganda proud.
