Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) does not need anybody’s congratulatory messages following their victory in the just concluded presidential elections.

According to Opondo, the NRM ruling party facilitated massive change that was registered after the January 14th elections even though the opposition only focusses on the presidential election.

Opondo added that irrespective of the existence of the petition lodged by National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, Museveni remains president-elect until the Supreme Court decides otherwise.

“There was massive change especially in Parliament if you are talking of change. You are focussing on the presidential election. President Museveni remains president-elect. The petition doesn’t nullify his election.”

Opondo added that whether or not the NRM is congratulated by the members of the opposition, they won the election which victory they worked hard to earn, they cannot cry for congratulatory messages from anyone.

“NRM worked hard for the win of the presidential. We are not crying for your congratulatory messages. You can keep them.”
