Mesach Semakula believes the resurgence of classic songs on TikTok is proof that timeless music never loses its value. According to the singer, only songs with strong messages and quality production are finding new life with younger audiences, while many newer releases struggle to enjoy the same longevity.

Speaking about the growing trend of old Ugandan songs going viral on social media, Semakula said TikTok has given classic hits a second chance to reach new listeners.
He noted that many veteran artists are once again becoming relevant because they focused on creating music that could stand the test of time rather than chasing short-lived trends.
“Only the good ones come back, not all of them,” Semakula said. “Creatives should focus on making quality music that will last and benefit them for years.”
He argued that artists should prioritize meaningful lyrics and well-crafted songs if they want their music to continue generating interest decades after its release.
The singer also encouraged musicians to create songs that are ahead of their time. He pointed to legendary members of Afrigo Band, including Moses Matovu, as examples of artists whose music continues to resonate across generations.
“You see Afrigo Band, Mzee Matovu, no matter how old he gets, he sang when he was a young man and those songs are fitting him in old age. The secret is in creating things ahead of your time,” Semakula explained.
His remarks come at a time when TikTok has become a powerful platform for reviving classic music, with many old Ugandan songs trending years after their release.
