State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has endorsed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s bid for the presidency in 2031.
Nameere says Muhoozi’s family background should not prevent him from participating in politics or seeking Uganda’s highest office.
She argues that Muhoozi has gained leadership experience through his service in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and credits him with championing a renewed fight against corruption.
According to Nameere, her support for Muhoozi is based on his leadership and vision, adding that she believed in his ability to lead Uganda even before his current presidential ambitions became prominent.
Nameere has also dismissed reports of disagreements between her, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and Muhoozi.
She says her stance against corruption may have been used by some individuals to create divisions between her and the group.
Nameere further said her support goes beyond simply signing an endorsement declaration, arguing that Muhoozi’s presidential campaign will need a clear vision, a strong message and a practical plan to mobilise support.
Muhoozi, who is currently serving as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, has been at the centre of an ongoing PLU mobilisation drive ahead of the 2031 elections. PLU began a nationwide endorsement campaign earlier this month, with several political leaders and public figures publicly backing his presidential ambitions.
Nameere was appointed Minister of State for Local Government in President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 Cabinet.
