Veteran Ugandan artist and music manager Chagga Geoffrey has finally spoken out about his failed Friends of Chagga concert, accusing the promoter of allegedly intending to embarrass him through poor planning and inadequate publicity.
Chagga had organised the concert, which was scheduled for November 1, 2025, at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala. However, the event was cancelled at the last minute following low ticket sales and other logistical challenges.
Speaking about what went wrong, Chagga expressed disappointment with the promoter, claiming that the media campaign did not meet his expectations and that he was forced to seek publicity for the concert himself.
“The promoter started calling me on interviews but took me to low-end televisions. He took me to an Islam TV in Nabweru, and I started fighting them because I didn’t like how they were advertising me,” Chagga explained.
He added that he eventually reached out to his media contacts to help promote the event after becoming dissatisfied with the publicity arrangements.
Chagga further revealed that a press conference organised ahead of the concert did not attract the expected media attendance, despite the promoter having assured him that media engagements would be handled.
“When I organised the press conference, they didn’t turn up,” he said.
According to Chagga, the promoter had promised to take care of media publicity but failed to deliver, leaving him to personally contact journalists and invite them to the press conference.
The singer believes the promoter’s actions were intended to embarrass him rather than give the concert the publicity it needed to attract audiences.
