Pastor Solomon Mwesige Arrested Over Alleged Shs2.9 Billion Gold Theft

Pastor Solomon Mwesige of Good News Church in Bulenga, Wakiso District, has reportedly been arrested in connection with an investigation into the alleged theft of gold valued at about Shs2.9 billion.

According to a report published by New Vision on October 19, 2026, Mwesige was arrested on October 2 during a police operation at the church premises.

Detectives from the Police Mineral Protection Unit (PMP) and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) are reportedly jointly investigating the matter.

Reports indicate that during questioning, Mwesige acknowledged knowing the American investors involved in the case. He reportedly stated that the money in question was used to establish Ukuri Aperture Science Innovation Ltd in Karamoja.

The investors have been identified as George Mitchell Lepak and Dylan Robert Bluma. A photograph accompanying the report reportedly shows Mwesige with the two investors during an inspection of progress at their UKURI site in Abim District on September 1, 2026.

However, publicly available details about the alleged theft, the precise role of the company and whether formal charges have been filed remain limited.

The case comes amid continued scrutiny of gold-related investment activities in Uganda, including those involving projects in the Karamoja sub-region.

While Mwesige’s reported arrest marks a development in the investigation, the available information does not establish that he committed the alleged offence. Further details about the investigation and any possible charges have not been independently confirmed from the information available.
