Dre Cali has finally opened up about the decision that saw him leave Uganda and relocate to Canada, while also dismissing claims that he faked an illness to secure a visa.
Speaking in an interview with Kaiyz, the singer explained that his move was driven by a desire to pursue better opportunities and secure a brighter future abroad. The decision, however, came at a cost, as it marked the end of his working relationship with fellow musician and record label boss Ykee Benda and Mpaka Records.
For years, Ykee Benda has maintained that he invested heavily in Dre Cali’s music career, only for the singer to leave unexpectedly and settle in Canada.
The move sparked criticism from some quarters, with others accusing Dre Cali of misleading people about his health status in order to obtain travel documents.
Addressing the matter, Dre Cali defended his actions, insisting that he made the choice that was best for his life at the time.
“If I put those people in my position they would have done the same thing I did. At the time I had to choose what was best for me. You have to be selfish because some things happen and they threaten your life so you have to look out for yourself,” he said.
While he acknowledged that many people still question the circumstances surrounding his departure, Dre Cali made it clear that he has no intention of revealing the full story behind his decision.
The singer said there were personal reasons that influenced his move, but he prefers to keep those details private. According to him, he is convinced that relocating to Canada was the right decision and one he does not regret.
Dre Cali added that he will “die with his reasons,” emphasizing that some aspects of his journey are too personal to be shared publicly.
