Singer Ava Peace has rejected claims that Ugandan music is struggling to break into international markets, insisting that local artists continue to make an impact beyond the country’s borders.
Ava Peace disagreed with suggestions that Ugandan music is no longer gaining global attention, arguing that several artists have already proven the country’s ability to compete on the international stage.
“If the music was stopping here, then the likes of Radio and Weasel wouldn’t have got BET recognition and Kenzo wouldn’t have won it,” she said.
The singer highlighted the achievements of some of Uganda’s biggest names, including Eddy Kenzo’s BET Award win and Radio and Weasel’s international recognition, as examples of how Ugandan music has continued to receive global appreciation.
Ava Peace also revealed that her own music recently gained attention outside Uganda, with one of her songs trending in Fiji. She added that artists like Jose Chameleone continue to showcase Ugandan talent internationally through performances across the region, including Tanzania.
According to Ava Peace, the industry may be experiencing a slower period locally, but the talent and potential of Ugandan musicians remain strong, with more effort needed to continue pushing the music to wider audiences.
