Ugandan female DJ Alisha has defended female deejays against criticism from their male counterparts, arguing that women naturally attract a certain level of attention that can also be used to entertain audiences.

The DJ was responding to claims from some male deejays who question the ability of female DJs, arguing that many rely on dancing, twerking and their physical appearance to secure gigs and entertain crowds rather than their deejaying skills.
Speaking during an appearance on The Pick Up With Prim, Alisha dismissed the criticism, insisting that female DJs should not be blamed for using everything at their disposal to capture the attention of audiences.
She argued that women naturally command a different kind of attention from men, adding that male DJs would equally embrace twerking if they had the ability to do so.
“A woman is always going to be a woman. A woman is always going to grab a certain attention that a man won’t. It’s not even about in the deejaying industry, that’s how the world works,” she said.
“You can’t be mad that I have brought everything I’ve got. If also the male deejays could twerk, I’m sure they would do it. Some do have bums, don’t they?” she added.
Alisha’s remarks come at a time when Uganda’s entertainment industry has witnessed a growing number of female DJs making their mark in a space that has traditionally been dominated by men.
