Ugandan media sensation Daniel Isaac Katende popularly known as Kasuku is rewriting his story in bold ink. The fearless journalist, YouTuber, blogger, and broadcast personality is now deeply immersed in academia, pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology at Makerere University.
While many celebrities relax after achieving fame, Kasuku continues to invest in himself, strategically preparing for bigger roles in government and international platforms.
Kasuku’s foundation is firmly rooted in media. He earned a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2010. He later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University, graduating around 2012.
These qualifications opened doors across Uganda’s media landscape. He worked as an entertainment reporter for Red Pepper, hosted popular shows on Dembe FM and Spark TV and built a massive online audience through his YouTube channel and Big Bang News UG blog. His fearless, straight talking style which earned him the nickname Kasuku (parrot) for fearlessly repeating truths made him a household name in gossip, social commentary, and public discourse.
Despite his media success, Kasuku craved deeper impact. In February 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Community Psychology from Makerere University during the institution’s 73rd Graduation Ceremony. He pursued the degree part time while still running his broadcasting and content creation empire.
In various interviews, Kasuku revealed his motivations: the desire to professionally tackle pressing societal issues such as drug addiction, depression, toxic relationships, and mental health struggles he frequently encountered in his public interactions. He wanted to move from gut instinct to evidence-based expertise in human behavior. He also emphasized his wish to set a strong example for his children.
Kasuku has raised the bar once again. He is currently sitting examinations for his Master’s degree in Psychology at Makerere University. Sources close to him confirm he is particularly drawn to clinical psychology which focuses on assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions a natural progression from his community psychology background.
This academic pursuit aligns perfectly with his long term ambitions in rehabilitation programs, forensic psychology, policy influence, and public service.
Kasuku’s educational journey is far from random. It is widely viewed as deliberate preparation for senior positions in President Yoweri Museveni’s government. He has already held direct engagements with the President on key issues including support for digital content creators, the digital economy, and improved internet access.
His unique blend of sharp media instincts, deep understanding of human and social behavior, and ability to connect with ordinary citizens makes him a strong candidate for influential advisory or leadership roles. Many also see him as well positioned for opportunities at international bodies like the United Nations where expertise in mental health, communication, and community development is increasingly valuable.
Kasuku’s story from being orphaned and raised by family in Bukoto, Kampala, attending top schools like St. Mary’s Kitende and Standard High, to earning multiple degrees while building a media brand is a masterclass in resilience and ambition.
