Socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has urged parents, especially men, to write wills after a court ruled that property belonging to the late Ivan Ssemwanga in Uganda belongs to their children.

Speaking to the media following the ruling, Zari expressed relief and happiness that the lengthy legal battle had finally come to an end in favor of the children. She said the experience should serve as a wake-up call for people to clearly document how they want their property distributed after their death.
“This should be a lesson to people out there. Make a will for your children,” she said.
Zari emphasized that writing a will is important regardless of whether someone is married, divorced, or separated. She argued that the mother of a man’s children will always prioritize the well-being of their children and should not have to endure unnecessary legal battles over what rightfully belongs to them.
She also noted that disputes often arise because extended family members develop a sense of entitlement to a deceased person’s property when there are no clear instructions left behind.
“Even if it’s sandals you want to give to your brother, write it in your will so that they know you left the sandals to him,” she said.
The reality television star further revealed that the prolonged property dispute took an emotional toll on her, to the point where she feared for her own safety.
According to Zari, there were moments when she worried she could be harmed because she was the one standing up for her children’s inheritance.
“I always wondered what if they do something to me or pour acid on me because I am my kids’ protection,” she said.
She explained that despite her children appearing unbothered by the legal proceedings, she remained determined to fight for what belonged to them, believing it was her responsibility to protect their interests.
The court’s decision brings an end to a long-running dispute over Ivan Ssemwanga’s Ugandan properties, with ownership now confirmed to rest with his children.
